The town of Dumfries is located just a few miles inland from the Solway Firth in south-west Scotland. With rich land surrounding the town, farming still plays an important role, however since the 1800's knitwear has also been a key industry producing beautiful woollen garments. The famous poet Robert Burns lived in Dumfries for many years and there are a number of attractions celebrating the man and his work throughout the town. Our excursions include New Abbey, where you can view the splendid ruin of Sweetheart Abbey and the town of Kirkcudbright with its bustling working harbour. You have the opportunity to visit the National Trust for Scotland property, Threave Gardens, a gardening school with a range of styles and plants. We tour to Castle Douglas, and the town of Newton Stewart on the banks of the River Cree in the heart of Galloway.Hotel:
THE CAIRNDALE HOTEL - The Cairndale Hotel enjoys a central setting within the town of Dumfries. This impressive hotel, rated as one of the best in the region, offers guests superb service in lavish surroundings.
